School Tours
Schedule a field trip for your class to experience and enjoy a visit to a picturesque farm in "The Heart of Apple Country". Tours can be scheduled for the Spring or Fall.
Spring tours
Spring tours are available from May 15th - June 20th and may include observing apple blossoms, planting, pollination, seedlings, strawberry harvest, and more. Spring trips will be customized to your schools needs depending on the season.
Fall Farm Experience (September 10th - October 28th )
Students will be greeted on the bus and be informed of the content of the tour. They will then exit the bus and head to our porch addition overlooking our orchards where they will hear a brief discussion of fruit farming in our area and a history of Lagoner Farms.
Some of the educational aspects that will be discussed throughout the experience will include:
- Geography - Lake Ontario and its effects on our climate and growing conditions
- Social Studies - Evolution of subsistence farming into processing and fresh marketing
- Math - Acreage, number of trees per acre, number of apples in a peck, bushel, bin, etc.
- Science - Soil types, sunlight, rainfall, drainage, crop life cycles, use of bees for pollination, pruning for increased production etc.
While in the orchard, students will be given the opportunity to pick three apples each to take home with them. Varieties will differ depending on the time of the season in which the trip occurs. Each class will also receive one pumpkin to take back with them and decorate for the season!
